Pickleball: America’s #1 Growing Sport Comes to Rochester Hills with Organized Play

Pickleball, a dynamic blend of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, is capturing the hearts and minds of players worldwide.  The sport was invented in 1965 on Bainbridge Island, near Seattle, Washington. Joel Pritchard, a congressman, and businessman, along with his friend Bill Bell, wanted to create a game that their families could enjoy together.

Around 1985 the sport arrived in Michigan and has been growing ever since. Today there are 36.5 million players across the United States and Michigan has an estimated 50,000 residents that have played the sport at least once.   Pickleball's popularity continues to soar, attracting players of all ages and skill levels. From parks and recreation to professional tournaments, the sport is experiencing exponential growth globally.
