R.A.R.A. SCAMP - Summer Camp For Students With Special Needs
R.A.R.A. SCAMP is a special summer camp for students with special needs, ranging from developmental delays to severe mental and physical disabilities.
The campers meet Monday - Thursday from 9:30 - 2:30 at North Hill Elementary School for six weeks during summer vacation. Campers enjoy the kind of recreational activities that are routinely available to children without special needs. Participants are primarily from Rochester and Rochester Hills. SCAMP is staffed by certified teachers, parapros, students and volunteers.
Tuition is $700 per camper. Thanks to the hard work of SCAMPers' parents, the remaining cost of camp is provided by generous area sponsors. Past major sponsors have included: West Middle School Students, Van Hoosen Middle School Students, Hart Middle School Students, Body Techniques Fitness Center, Whole Foods, St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Rochester Kiwanis and the Rochester Area Knights of Columbus, Women's Realtors of Rochester, Werner Management, St. Pauls' United Women's Group, Interchurch Women of Rochester, and Rochester Junior Women's Club.
