Day Camp/SCAMP Counselors

     

We're looking for energetic, creative thinkers who are dedicated to working with children for the entire summer (June - August). You must be 18 years or older and CPR certified by the time camp starts (RARA will provide a CPR class before camp). Previous camp/classroom experience is desired. Please see job description below. Qualifications Needed:

General

  • Understanding of goal and objectives of camp

  • Ability to work with children to grow in character, experiences, and insights

  • Knowledge of camp programs and planning

  • Guard the health and well being of campers at all times

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for a group of children during the entire day, including lunch

  • Responsible for special projects, performing duties or assignments given by the Camp Director or Camp Supervisor

  • Responsible for planning activities for groups of children and quiet activities if needed by the Camp Director during down times (after lunch, waiting for the bus, etc.)

  • Required to attend the Camp Staff Orientation and other mandatory dates

  • Responsible for reporting and documenting all injuries and discipline problems

  • Responsible for completing mid-summer and final program/staff evaluations

  • Required to notify Camp Director immediately of any possibly negligence or abuse of any children.

  • Required to be aware of proper emergency procedures and severe weather protocol, please refer to the employee handbook for detailed procedures.

  • Other duties as needed

Environmental Elements

Employees will work in the field and can be exposed to loud noises, cold and/or hot temperatures, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards. Employees may be exposed to blood and body fluids when rendering First Aid and CPR.  Appropriate attire must be worn for the recreation activity to which they are assigned.  Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures. The nature of this job does present increased exposure risk to communicable diseases.

Party Host

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

We are looking for party hosts to assist with birthday parties held at RARA. Party hosts are present at birthday parties to help families set up the space before the party (including set up of chairs and tables) and clean up the space after the party. Party hosts are responsible for helping families as needed throughout parties as well; these responsibilites vary based on the needs of the party. Responsibilities can include: serving food, directing guests, answering questions, relaying RARA rules, taking out garbage. Party hosts often lock and unlock the facility, as well as maintain cleanliness of restrooms and other areas used by the party. Parties are most often Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. This is the perfect job for college students.

Qualifications/Physical Demands:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • High school diploma is preferred.

  • Punctuality and reliability is a must.

  • Some past customer service experience preferred, but not required.

  • Detail oriented and conscientiousness.

  • Stamina, good physical condition, and strength.

  • Flexible schedule.

  • Cleaning during your shift.

Work day / work week:
  •  Hours are not consistent week to week, but are scheduled based on parties that are on the calendar.

  • Party hosts work approximately 3-5 hours per party.

Rate of pay:

$16.45 per hour

Recreation Internist

Coordinates, administers and directs the staff/volunteers/contractors and activities for various Camps, Recreation Programs, Special Events, and other programming at RARA. 
  • Internship is seasonal from Jan - August or May - December 
  • Hours are a minimum of 40 per week, with night, weekend, and holiday hours required.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Provide planning, promotion/marketing and coordination of recreations programs that include, but are not limited to, Sports Camps, Day Camps, Evening Youth Sports programs, Evening Golf programs, Weekend and Evening Special Events. 
  2. Assist Superintendent with Sponsorships. 
  3. Recommend the purchase of equipment and supplies needed to carry out the above programs. 
  4. Interview and recommend hiring of staff as necessary. Provide direction and evaluation of said staff. 
  5. Monitor varied recreation administrative duties such as registration, fee collection, etc. Verify that fees are collected properly and forms are completed properly and turned in promptly. Provide information to the public on the programs. Monitor documentation of program activities through participation review and photography. 
  6. Ability to fill in for recreational leaders; providing supervision and discipline for children in recreation program to ensure their safety. 
  7. Provide Recreation Supervisors with information on the program on a timely basis. Prepare reports of expenditures, revenues, participants, etc. 
  8. Assist with the supervision and management of the Field House as needed. 
  9. Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Internship/practicum required for completing Bachelor's or Master's degree in Parks and Recreation or related field 
  • Experience with programs, events and recreational facilities 
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, and managing files and records 
  • Good communications skills both oral and written

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Ability and experience working with and relating to people of all ages. 
  • Prior experience working in summer recreational programs.

  • Greet customers, check in members and guests and provide exceptional service to make customers feel comfortable and welcome.

  • Utilize recreation software for facility rentals, memberships and program registration.

  • Communicate with other staff in order to successfully resolve problems and issues in a timely manner.

  • Collect payments by cash, check or charge.  Balance the cash drawer at the beginning and end of shift. 

  • Ensure customers and guests are adhering to facility policies and procedures.

  • Setup and teardown for parties, programs and special events.

  • Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and overall appearance of the recreation center.

  • Follow opening and closing procedures and monitor the facility during shifts.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Skill in communicating both orally and in writing.

Recreation Aide

Description

The Rochester Avon Recreation Authority is seeking intermittent part-time Recreation Aides responsible for supporting athletic programs and activities and assisting program participants.  

Essential Functions 

The responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  •  Assists with the planning and implementation of athletic programs including sports leagues & tournaments, games, and special events. 
  •  Provides oversight and direction of athletic program participants and volunteers; monitors control of athletic games, participants and spectators.  
  •  Monitors various athletic games, operates score clock, keeps score, maintains appropriate records, and ensures adherence to established rules and regulations.  
  • Performs administrative duties including answering phones, responding to patrons, completing forms, setting up and breaking down necessary equipment, etc.  
  •  Maintains facility order and cleanliness.  
  •  Maintains a professional demeanor and appearance. 
  •  Must possess technical knowledge of recreational games such as basketball, football, tennis, volleyball, etc.  
  •  This position requires excellent inter-personal, communication and organizational skills and the ability to effectively interact with and contribute to the growth and development of diverse citizen groups. 
  • Ability to see, hear, stand/walk for extended periods of time, lift from ground to above shoulder, climb, bend, stoop, sit, push, pull, perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and utilize telephone communications.

Education/Experience

Requires level of knowledge equivalent to less than high school or equivalency and some experience in recreation, athletics or a related field. Experience with sports activities is a plus.  

Rate of Pay:

$13.77 / hr
