elcome to the Rochester Avon Recreation Authority (RARA) web site. RARA has been the recreation provider to the communities of Rochester and Rochester Hills, Michigan, since 1946. We provide recreation programs from 12 months to adults in a variety of areas, such as dance, sports classes, sport leagues, pre-school classes, special events, fitness, skiing, and so much more. RARA's Mission Statement

To provide an extensive and varied recreational program, enhancing personal enrichment, and providing for the community's leisure needs.

The activities and services shall include, but not be limited to, recreational and enrichment activities for all ages, youth and adult sports programs (non-competitive and competitive), and activities for special populations.

Registration

RARA's registration process is the same for each season. A brochure of all our program offerings is mailed to the residents of Rochester and Rochester Hills three times a year. Fall, Winter/Spring, and Summer. The Fall brochure goes out in August, the Winter/Spring goes out in December and the Summer brochure is mailed in May. In the brochure we designate a day which begins our in person registration. All residents of Rochester and Rochester Hills may register on that day. Phone-in and fax-in registrations begin on a Wednesday. Persons not living in Rochester and Rochester Hills may register by all three methods beginning on a Thursday.

Residents and Non Residents

Residents are those people who reside in the cities of Rochester and Rochester Hills. As part of their property taxes they pay a small contribution to support RARA. Residents of surrounding areas such as Oakland and Washington Townships who go to Rochester Schools are not considered Residents; they pay school taxes but not RARA taxes. Non-residents can participate in RARA activities; there is a small non-resident fee.

Fees listed in the brochure or on the website are for the residents of Rochester and Rochester Hills. Non-residents add $5.00 per child and $10.00 per adult per activity. Special Events are exempt from the non-resident fee.

Forms of Payments
RARA accepts cash, checks, Visa or Master card as forms of payment for all programs except amusement park tickets. During the summer RARA sells discounted amusement park tickets, which may be purchased only with cash or check.

Refunds

All classes and activities cancelled by RARA will be refunded in full. Participants requesting refunds before the first class will be charged a $5.00 service charge. Participants requesting a refund after the first class but before the second class will be charged 25% of the class fee.
