Rochester Hills Naturalist Opportunities

Adaptive Nature Hike with Naturalist 

This program is designed for people with disabilities. Join us for a light hike in the woods with Ms. Wendy and a Rochester Hills Naturalist. We will be able to enjoy getting exercise, while learning about the nature, plants, and animals that we have in our community!

Adaptive Hay Ride with a Naturalist

This program is designed for people with disabilities. Join us for a hay ride in the woods with RARA’s Ms. Wendy and a Rochester Hills Naturalist. We will enjoy a hay ride in the park, while learning about some of the animals that we have in our community!

Adaptive WERQ

 WERQ is the wildly addictive cardio dance class based on the hottest pop and hip hop music. The workout is nonstop with repetitive athletic moves and fresh dance steps, so you get the best sweat. WERQ Instructors build a playlist based on trendsetting pop and hip hop music.

Layered Gelli - Printmaking Fun!

Fun and easy printmaking using Gelli (a gelatin plate), inks, paints, brayers, and more! Colorful creations will be matted and ready to hang up in your home by the end of class. Come join in the Fun!

Parents/aides are welcome to attend to help. This class will take place at Paint a Miracle.

6 Week Clay Studio

Have fun creating extraordinary clay animals. Then, glaze and fire them in the kiln.

Holiday Dances

Spooktacular Dance

This dance is designed for persons who have special needs. Come boogie down with great music and dancing, while enjoy a fun evening with friends with a Halloween theme. Costumes are encouraged! Refreshments will be served.

Jingle All the Way Dance

This dance is designed for persons who have special needs. Come boogie down with great music and dancing, while enjoy a fun evening with friends with a holiday and snowflake theme. Wear red and green to show your holiday spirit! Refreshments will be served.

Diners Club

One Monday a month enjoy a meal with friends at various local restaurants. This opportunity is designed to support persons with special needs. Participants pay for their own meal, beverage, and tip. PRE-REGISTER EARLY as spots are very limited and so that we have enough assistance and space reserved in the restaurants. 14+ Years. All times are 5:00-6:30

Adaptive Fitness Walk

 For persons with developmental disabilities. This 4-week group will be led by Ms. Wendy on the Paint Creek Trail for a good cardio fitness walk. Parents are welcome to participate too! Wear gym clothes and shoes. Bring your water bottle. We will meet at the West Entrance of the Rochester Hills Library.

Social Skills Workshop for Teens and Young Adults

Join us for a 1-night Social Skills workshop! Through activities and games this workshop will focus on a variety of social skills such as: engaging in conversation, reading body language, showing interest in others, giving compliments, asking questions and coping with a problem. This is geared for teens through young adults with special needs, ages 14-25, implemented by a Certified Recreational Therapist. Provided in partnership with Therapeutic Concepts.

Participants are encouraged to attend with their families, so that after the class, participants and families can work on learned skills together. Family members do not need to register separately.

Row House - Rowing Exercise for Beginners

Join Row House for a fun opportunity for exercise! Row House will teach a beginner's exercise class using their row machines at their indoor facility located at 1206 Walton Blvd Rochester Hills, MI 48307. Build aerobic endurance and muscular strength all in one workout. Please arrive 15 minutes before the start of this class.

A parent/caregiver is encouraged to attend with the participant, but must also pay the registration fee.

16+ years

Adaptive Judo

 Judo classes are taught by a certified USJF black belt with over 30 years of teaching experience, including 7 years in adaptive programming for peoples with special needs. Class emphasizes safety and respect for others while being fun as well. Beginner Judokas will learn to fall safely, as well as master the fundamentals of basic Judo (throwing and pinning; there are no kicks and punching) and can eventually earn belt ranks. Just wear long sleeve sweats tops and bottoms. Gis (uniforms) can be purchased from the instructor when the participant decides on a gi.

RARA Wright Room

Movie Night Out

This opportunity is designed to support persons with special needs. Enjoy a movie with your friends at the theater one Wednesday a month. You will pay for your own ticket and concessions. Movies and times are based on the current theater schedule. Spots are EXTREMELY limited, so you must pre-register so that we have enough assistance and space reserved. Movie select/times will be emailed the week of the program. 14+ years

Adaptive Mixed Style Dance Class

Join Ms. Erica for a fun dance class. This class will be a combination of many styles, adding tons of variety in the class. Styles may include line dancing, hip hop, jazz, and more. Dance moves will be learned and a combination will be taught over the 6 weeks.

Mondays July 11-August 15 4:30-5:15 in RARA Studio A 

$65 per person 

Adaptive Mixed Style Dance Recital Class

Join Ms. Erica for a fun dance class. This class will be a combination of many styles, adding tons of variety in the class. Styles may include line dancing, hip hop, jazz, and more. This class will have a performance in the June RARA dance recital (date(s) TBA).

By registering for this course, you are commiting to 12 classes September 22-December 14 (no class November 23, December 21, and December 28) and 18 classes from January 11-May 24 (no class February 22, March 29). The fee for the first 12 weeks of class is $195. An additional $195 will be owed on December 1 for the second half of costumes. Included in your fee is the costume cost and recital fees.
